Is there a reason why we are here today?

This is a question I've looked upon for the answer nearly my whole life.

I truly want to know why I am here. Initially, I believed in the phrase "everything happens for a reason," however I now don't. I do not know why one is here or why one is not here. This question when asked and a scientific response is attempted. It sounds like:

"Well, you are here because of the woman who gave birth to you. And one thing led to another and you start to evolve into a teenager."

I cannot account for a religious response because this question, if and when brought up and a religious response comes out, then it'd vary between people.

One can argue for several other responses, such as an elderly's response or a child's response or a philosophical response or even a drunk response.

My response to this question is simple: no. And for the first time, "no" is a good thing, in my opinion. There is no specific or documented or known reason why everyone is here today. There are multiple reasons why everyone is here today. Everyone is different and unique. Your life is one-of-a-kind.

As a child, I thought the reason I was here, was because I had to make forts for my baby cousins and play pretend doctor and chef with them. I thought I had to open my eyes to see what nature is, what people are, what I look like, and what various emotions feel like.

When I grew up and became aware of puberty and more science concepts of the human body and its interactions or development, I began to wonder again. At that time, I thought the reason why I was present at that time was that I had to interact with my peers and I had to listen to pop music and I had to play Foursquare to pass time.

I believe that logically there is no reason why we are here today, we just are.

I live by this newfound quote I came across a couple months ago or so: "Assume nothing, question everything," by the author of "Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life" James Patterson.

I tend to make assumptions. I tend to overthink. I tend to...

I love to question everything. But the question above should be discarded because it's one of those questions where no one needs an answer immediately.

There is no "how-to book" for life. There is no reason for all. There is no right or wrong in a universe's book. Nothing is invalid.

Anyways, as of right now, my reason(s) on why I am here today is because:

  • I did not die in my sleep.
  • I am working toward getting a high school diploma.
  • I filled up on nutrients and calories yesterday.
  • I am going discover my details about others and myself.
So, again, is there a reason why we are here today? That is up for debate. No one should ask this question. I feel like this is an indicator of either boredom or research.

That is a question to be answered after death or even never. If asked rhetorically, then it is probably more plausible.

Another response I have is yes, there is a reason.

We are here today to communicate, connect, observe, admire, reflect, uncover, breathe in, interact, coexist, experience, and feel.

When born, we know nothing. As a teenager right now, I know people and places and the past and...

Ask yourself this: why are we here?
(me: why not? laughs out loud.)

This is a question that I looking for the answer, and it might take me my whole life.

Of all of the 8+ planets and 8.7 million+ species and 100 billion+ galaxies and countless universes, we are on Earth in the Milky Way galaxy and the unnamed universe, coexisting with 7.4 billion+ people.

me: I wanted to be on Neptune coexisting with wizards and dementors in a parallel universe to this one in the Black Eye galaxy!

I can ramble on and on about science and science fiction. Laughs out loud. Anyways,...

If you were forced to choose only one thing for the rest of your life (aside from the basic human needs: eating, drinking, sleeping, interacting with others, and being active whether with your brain or your body), then what would it be?

I'd write.
